West Point had another graduating class this week and one of those grads is 24 year old Alix Idrache, an immigrant from Hati who graduated at the top of his class and has been commissioned a lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Why was he crying when his fellow graduates were not shedding any tears? In a recent interview with the Baltimore Sun Lieutenant Idrache said this about his graduation:
“I am from Haiti and never did I imagine that such honor would be one day bestowed on me,” he wrote on Instagram. “I could not help but be flooded with emotions knowing that I will be leading these men and women who are willing to give their all to preserve what we value as the American way of life.”
What’s captivating about this photo is that it shows not just a priceless moment in time, but it also captures the emotion of a young man who believes in the American Dream, when others don’t, and this should give more people hope that the next generation will be willing to stand up and fight for the American way of life if needed.
